The Voice season 19 coach Gwen Stefani brought in pop star Julia Michaels to serve as her team’s advisor for the Battle Rounds. For this round of contestants battling it out, Team Kelly Clarkson has Leon Bridges, Team Blake Shelton has Kane Brown, Team John Legend has Miguel, and Team Gwen Stefani has Julia Michaels.
Julia Michaels was first featured on The Voice season 14, where she came in as a Battle advisor to help Adam Levine’s team. Julia also returned later that season as a musical guest during the finale episode. She was born Julia Carin Cavazos, but her father was an actor who changed his name to John Michaels. So, she also decided to adapt her stage name to fit his.
Per Seventeen, Julia discovered her love for music and songwriting when she co-wrote the theme song for the Disney Channel series Austin And Ally. She was only 17 years old at the time. The fans may also know her from writing some hit songs for other artists like Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, and Britney Spears. With that said, Julia didn’t officially get her big break in music until she released “Issues” in 2017. This hit song peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Since July 2019, Julia Michaels has been in a relationship with Canadian singer-songwriter JP Saxe. During the first Battle Round episode, Gwen Stefani paired up Lauren Frihauf and Payge Turner to perform the song “If The World Was Ending,” which is a song that Julia and JP collaborated on. Both Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson chose Payge as the winner of that battle, whereas John declined to pick a winner out of the two artists. In the end, the decision came down to Gwen to decide who she wanted to advance in the competition.
The Battle Rounds on The Voice season 19 will continue, so the fans will get to see more of Julia Michaels advising the singers who were picked for Team Gwen. It is still unknown what the live shows are going to look like during these times of COVID-19, and it’s also still unclear if any musical guests will come on to the show to perform.
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8PM EST on NBC.
