One side quest in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla tasks players with retrieving a statue from an NPC named Maximilian. While this seems like it should be an easy task, it’s much more difficult than simply asking Maximilian to hand over his statue. Players either need to have enough money to trade for it or a high enough level of charisma to persuade him. There is a third option, of course, where players can simply take the statue, but they will need to distract the NPC and find the key to do it.
During the A Rivalry for the Ages quest, Eivor will need to go to Lunden for the Roman Legionnaire statue. They will find Maximilian standing in front of his home and unwilling to give up this item. Players will need to hire someone to help them distract Maximilian so they can take the key, enter the house, and steal the statue. Here’s how to get the key and the statue to continue the A Rivalry for the Ages quest in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.
The first thing players will want to do, provided they don’t want to pay Maximilian for the statue or don’t have enough charisma, is hire someone to distract Maximilian. Following the dialogue option “I’ll be back for it,” the player will need to swing the camera around and head southeast until they come across two Norse children on the corner who are advertising that they will complete odd jobs for coin.
Eivor will have to pay the children 65 Silver, but they will agree to lure Maximilian away from the house. Once they take Maximilian across the street, Eivor should sneak onto the porch to collect the house key from the small table.
Unfortunately, there have been some player reports of a bug that causes the key to not appear. If this happens, players will need to reload and try one of the other two options or outright abandon the quest. It’s a good idea to save before starting the distraction to make sure players don’t lose their progress until the bug is fixed.
If players do find the key, they should use it to unlock the door right behind the table where the key is found. They then need to quickly collect the Roman Legionnaire statue, which can be found on a table to the left inside the house.
Once Eivor has the statue, the player should have them leave out the back door as fast as possible. Maximilian will return to his post and notice someone has broken in. The player can have Eivor speak to the child one more time to thank them. They will then need to take the statue to Octavian, who will reward them with XP and Skill Points.
